Dr. Stephen Watiti
Dr Stephen Watiti is a medical doctor and was the first Ugandan medical doctor to become public about his HIV status.
He is an HIV/AIDS activist and has participated in several foras in the country and at international level related to HIV stigma and discrimination. Dr Watiti has also contributed to sections in published books like My HIV Experience published by Action AID international Africa, and he is a regular columnist to the New Vision Face HIV with Dr Watiti.
Dr Watiti is recognized in the country and region and won awards to include recognition award of 2009 from Parliament if Uganda in recognition of his work on fight against AIDS in Uganda, Meritious Award of 2008 from Rotary Club in recognition of work related to stigma and discrimination of HIV/AIDS, Dignity and Right to Health Award of 2009 from International Christian Medical and Dental Association, Noerine Kaleeba Breaking the Silence Award Winner of 2005.
Dr Watiti is also a Champion of Tear Fund and holds a Bachelors of Medicine and Bachelors of Surgery Makerere University, also has a Diploma in Management from Uganda Management Institute and currently works with Mildmay Centre as the Clinic Manager.
